Movie Song of the Week

For no particular reason, this week I’ve chosen to highlight a modern ballad from a blockbuster remake. Poseidon wasn’t well-received upon its release, but the film does boast a soaring ballad called “Won’t Let You Fall” sung by Fergie of The Black Eyed Peas. If you like ballads (and who doesn’t?), here’s one that couldn’t strike gold with Oscar, unlike The Poseidon Adventure’s “The Morning After” - an inferior, dated track in hindsight. Check out the song, as well as the track from the original down below.

  1. Nice work highlighting both songs, buddy! The track from the remake was certainly better than the original. Both flicks are decent enough, if both pretty flawed, to be honest.

    1. Thanks man! I love the original films, and the new one isn't terrible.

  2. The new song is okay but the remake was a noxious piece of swill totally subverting the message of the first. In the original by pulling together they felt some would survive, the characters in the remake were a bunch of detestable animals who thought nothing of letting the others perish. Can you tell I LOATHED it?

I have a soft spot for The Morning After, although back in its day I was heartily sick of it. They played it to death on the radio, it was everywhere!

    1. Haha, I didn't hate the new version, but I've not seen it in years.

1972 was a weak year for original movie songs, unfortunately. I can't say I love the track.

  3. The only thing about that song "The Morning After" that I know about is that it was used in South Park where Stan and Kyle created a version sung backwards to get rid of a succubus.

I don't remember that song by Fergie though I was happy that she died in the film. She's awful.

    1. Haha. It's ironic that the singers in both versions of Poseidon died, if I remember correctly.

  4. I didn't mind this movie at all. It was decent, and it also guarantees that I will never get on a cruise ship. Ever. lol This is a good song pick though! I had forgotten about it until now.

  5. I actually prefer The Morning After song, so I'm happy you shared both :) I'm not a fan of Fergie
